Tiger Mochi

What’s Tiger Mochi?

Can I keep my hands at rest? The answer seems obvious.

I was looking for an easy way to design lettering on a textile medium; from a very young age both my mom and granma tried to guide me through crochet and knitting. Apart from my frustration, results were messy and inconsistent. Even if I couldn’t make a nice centerpiece, nor even a kitchen pot holder, I always admired their passion, skills and wit. When I studied design, I then came across some textile pieces made by Gunta Stolz, Anni Alberts and Otti Berger: I started thinking that maybe I could embrace the materials that I grew up with with a design approach.

So, Tiger Mochi is basically my way of express lettering in stitches, using punch needle, a pretty straight-forward technique for making carpets, pillows and other everyday home accessories. The items you see, are made by using Amy Oxford tools, they are handmade and the quality is top notch (plus small businesses are awesome, let’s support them).

Here’s a selection of the pieces I have the chance to make through this journey: small rugs, banners and pillows. All made by hand and without any power tool.

Why not using a tufting gun?

I’m in love with big piece created for large rooms with incredible sculpting techniques, but for now I will hold no gun in my hand. I do this as a stress-release, and having the pressure to create large pieces using an automatic tool does not excites me.

I keep it simple and cozy.

At the moment my production is pretty slow, this is a side project free from market pressure, but, I am open to take custom orders. So, please feel free to contact me to discuss it, I’ll be happy to have a chat about your project, we can choose together colors and materials.

Othewise, take a look a some of the items in my shop, some of them are on sale. Please remember that everything is handmade and one of a kind. Cotton items are more expensive than wool, and so are big objects. Imperfections are part of the process.
